The National Institute of Health estimates that one out of 88 children in the United States have Autism Spectrum Disorder, yet it is still very misunderstood in our society. It is still unclear what causes the disorder, and it is not tied to any one ethnic, socioeconomic or age group.
What is Autism?
Autism is a neurological disorder that alters the way nerve cells connect to and organize with their synapses, ultimately affecting the way that person processes information. The way that people with autism respond to others is often misconstrued because they have a hard time expressing their thoughts and feelings.

Children with autism may have a difficult time learning in a public school setting. These students require careful evaluation of their learning disabilities, and a unique approach needs to be created to provide them with a curriculum that will benefit their needs and ensure they have an adequate educational experience. Resources for children with autism may be lacking in public schools, making it difficult for special education teachers to help students to the best of their abilities.
