Creative and competent

Helping kids learn new skills may sound difficult to many parents, but the truth is that children ages 1 through 5 are actually easy to teach. At such a young age, their minds soak up information like sponges, meaning that the importance of educational games and activities and an early love of the arts are easy to instill in kids. Do you have children ages 1 through 5 who need age-appropriate educational activities? Help your kids learn through play with these three great ideas:

Play games with your children.

Playing board games or using educational toys like blocks is one of the best ways to get kids to think creatively. This also includes using blocks with letters and numbers on them. By the age of four, a child typically knows between 12 and 15 letters of the alphabet, so this is a good opportunity for more learning.

Encourage your kids to learn art and music early.

In addition to playing with educational toys, children are also capable of learning about music and art at an early age. In fact, in preschools, the most popular types of art classes involve voice or instrument training (preferred by 36% of students) and visual arts (enjoyed most by 19% of preschoolers). Singing, playing percussion instruments, finger painting, and coloring are all excellent activities for preschool age children.

Enroll your child in a preschool program.

The preschool experience provides a positive learning environment for children ages 1 through 5 and includes art and music-related activities. This arts based instruction can encourage a lifetime of learning for your children. Students who study art consistently, regardless of what they go on to study in college, are more likely to earn awards for academic achievement, essay writing, science projects, and school attendance in elementary, middle, and high school.
